September 27, 1933: "Cluad Sellard came home from Whetstone mountain Friday night where he has been for the past few weeks building a look-out for the forestry service. Sellard reports rain fell in sheets, making torrents of small streams and that snow fell, with about two inches on the ground in the vicinity of Elk Lake." (The Oregon Statesman)

October 11, 1968: The lookout structure disposed of by burning.
