September 14, 1933: "A 10 x 10 lookout is to be constructed by CCC labor before the snow flies. The 10 x 10 is the standard size for secondary lookouts." (Roseburg Chieftain)
August 29, 1935: "Radio service proved a most important factor in last night's emergency on the Umpqua National Forest, according to Supervisor V.V. Harpham.
The telephone line between Little Black Rock and Diamond Rock, in the South Umpqua District, was put out of commission. George Norman, lookout at the Little Black Rock emergency station, maintained communication with Bruce Ferguson at Diamond Rock, a distance of about 25 miles, by means of a portable voice radio set. The two lookouts were able to maintain conversation despite the static and other interference occasioned by the storm." (News-Review)
