August 26, 1939: " Horse Ridge was the scene of a mile-long fire of undetermined origin which broke out at noon today.
Located by the Fuzztail Butte lookout, the timber blaze was discovered just east of this station and bordering a railroad right-of-way. At mid afternoon the fire was running to the north-east and out of the forest, but a high wind aided it in spreading rapidly.
Thirty-eight CCC men from Elk Lake and Pringle Falls were attaching from the west edge of the fire and were gaining control slowly." (Bend Bulletin)
