1955: A 40-foot lookout tower constructed by the Crown Zellerbach Company.
October 17, 1957: "The Blue Lake fire lookout, southwest of Cochran and operated by the Northwest Fire Patrol association under the supervision of Crown Zellerbach corporation, has closed for the season, E. S. Young, logging superintendent for Crown Zellerbach's Tillamook Tree Farm announced today.
Young said the tower, staffed by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar George, Vernonia, terminated for the year, because recent rains lessened the serious fire conditions which had prevailed in the area. He said that the lookout will again be manned should the weather picture change and unseasonable dryness set in.
Blue Lake lookout serves as the coordinating station for Crown Zellerbach's weather reporting system which includes all lookouts on the company's tree farms in the Lower Columbia River region. It is located at the 3,600 foot level of the Coast range in the Wilson River block of the Tillamook Tree Farm." (Vernonia Eagle)
