July 17, 1925: "The forest service has established another lookout station at Harl Butte above Moor Flat. This commands much of the upper Imnaha and Big Sheep creek country. A house is being built on the prominence, and Curtiss Christy will be stationed as lookout." (La Grande Evening Observer)
August 10, 1944: "Bill Graham has gone to Harl Butte to be lookout for the remainder of the season. Mrs. Graham expects to go out and stay." (Wallowa County Chieftain
August 12, 1948: "Mr. and Mrs. K. R. Heasty visited briefly over the weekend with their son, Mitch, who is relief operator on the Harl Butte lookout." (Wallowa County Chieftain)
October 9, 1952: "Mrs. Bob Anderson and three small children, who have been living at Wallowa lake moved to Harl Butte Friday to be with Mr. Anderson who is stationed there as a forest fire lookout. Due to the dry season he is staying on longer than usual this summer." (Wallowa County Chieftain)
