February 11, 1943: "Oliver Cowan, lookout on Henderson's peak on Smith river, was a Reedsport visitor Wednesday. He says there is still snow on the ground there." (The Coos Bay Times)
February 26, 1943: "Oliver Cowan, in charge of Henderson's peak lookout was a business visitor here (Reedsport) Thursday." (The Coos Bay Times)
October 9, 1947: "William Sylvester, fire lookout on Henderson's Peak, Smith river, during the summer months, is now relieved of that work, the lookout having been closed Oct. 1." (The Coos Bay Times)
1958: A 40-foot steel tower with a 7 x 7 steel cab erected by a forest crew.
1972: The final season the lookout staffed.
1973: The lookout used as an emergency station and dismantled at the end of the season.
Note: The first structure was approximately a 12 foot round timber tower with an open platform.
