July 17, 1924: “Ranger Stephenson expects to have a chin-chin with Warden Art Johnson at the Sunset Mountain station and also to a general pasear through that end of the district.” (The Siuslaw News)
August 7, 1924: “A big black bear visited me at the lookout and stood up on his hind feet as if to say 'Howdy!' I shot him with a luger and he disappeared in haste. Don't know who was more surprised, me or the bear. The way he disappeared, I guess he's still going yet.
The 23rd was a day of very low humidity and great fire hazard. I had eight smokes to report. This was the worst day of the season. By Art B. Johnson.” (The Siuslaw News)
