September 1933: "At Mt Reuben CCC Camp: L.J. Cooper, District Ranger of Rand, was in camp last week inspecting the fire equipment units here and planning the site of the lookout which is to be located on the most favorable pinnacle of the Ninemile Ridge." (The Siskiyou Bulletin)
October 21, 1933: "A 40 foot lookout tower with lightning protection was constructed on Nine Mile mountain." (Roseburg News-Review)
December 1933: "The record of the Galice District in having no fires was almost shattered when slash burning around Ninemile lookout took off and burned everything clean for two or three hundred feet on each side of the lookout. The heavy fog had covered everything the day and evening before but cleared away early in the morning, leaving the brush soaking wet. By noon a noticeable east wind was blowing and by 3 P.M. had increased to a gale which was both warm and dry.
The fire at Ninemile really did a lot of good as it removed a bad fire hazard from around the new tower and cabin and burned only the area that would have to be kept cleared." (The Siskiyou Bulletin)
