May 14, 1947: "A new lookout station in the Willamette National Forest is one of 12 for which the Department of Agriculture has filed application to build, according to word from the CPA board in Portland.
Roy Elliott, assistant supervisor of the Willamette forest, said the lookout would be located on top of Stahlman Point in the Detroit district and would cost approximately $1000.
Trail crews are busy already, clearing a trail to the top of the 5000-foot peak and preparing the summit for the lookout station. Materials for the station will be packed in by mule, Elliott said, and work is slated to begin on July 1." (Eugene Register-Guard)
