October 1, 1934: "Lynn Perlock, employe of the forest service, was in critical condition at the Hood River hospital, suffering injuries said to have been sustained in a fall from a lookout tower in the Hiyu mountain district in the Mount Hood reserve early today.
According to hospital attendants, Perlock fell about 20 feet from the tower and then rolled down a 50-foot cliff. He was found by fellow workers and carried through a heavily wooded region to Dee, from where he was taken to the hospital here. His home was said to be in Oregon City." (Morning Oregonian)
