June 22, 1920: "The forest service is planning on a great deal of extension work to its telephone lines this summer and has already started several projects. The line along the North Umpqua trail will be put through to Watson butte." (The News-Review)
July 20, 1932: "Nine new lookout houses are to be built at an estimated cost of $5,300. [One of] these lookouts will be on Watson butte, Diamond lake district near Thorn prairie on the divide between Clearwater and North Umpqua." (Roseburg News-Review)
1933: A lookout established.
1937: An L-4 ground cabin constructed.
August 4, 1962: Staffing: "Dennis Alexander is another local representative on the lookout team. He attends the University of Portland." (The News-Review)
2022: The lookout collapsed from weather related causes.
