August 24, 1932: "New lookout houses will be built at He-He mountain, Sardine butte, Holland Meadows, Eagle's Rest, Pack Saddle mountain and Hemlock mountain." (The Eugene Guard)
September 9, 1932: "Materials are being made ready for the construction of two lookout houses in the Cascade national forest next week.
The two new lookouts will be on Sardine butte and Packsaddle mountain. The materials will be packed from 12 to 15 miles on horse to the mountains. Lumber will be cut to correct proportions before it is packed and assembly of the building will start at once upon arrival of the materials." (The Eugene Guard)

July 16, 1934: "Wm. G. Fowler left Thursday for Pack Saddle mountain where he will serve as lookout fireman in the Willamette forest." (The Eugene Register-Guard)
July 31, 1939: " Mud lake was the scene of a fire reported to the Deschutes national forest office in Bend at 12:30 p.m. today. Located at the south shore by the Packsaddle mountain lookout station, the blaze was threatening dry brush in that area.
In the early afternoon billows of smoke continued to roll up from the area north of Red crater. The forest service sent a pumper to the fire since water from Mud lake could be used to fight the blaze." (The Bend Bulletin)
September 19, 1941: "Felix Sparks has returned to his home from Pack Saddle mountain where he has just completed a lookout station." (The Eugene Guard)
