September 21, 1933: "A house for the lookout at Chicken hill will be built in the near future. This will be perched on a 20-foot tower. This point is of high altitude in the district which gives an advantageous view of wide areas of the forest." (The Record-Courier)
July 12, 1934: "W.E. Barnett, local ranger, came in from Chicken hill the first of the week where he had been putting in telephone, etc., at the new lookout station, and where Harry Craig will be stationed this summer." (The Record-Courier)
July 9, 1938: "Walter Barnett, local forest supervisor, returned this week from the summer fire training school held at Susanville. Mr. Barnett is spending several days at the lookout station located at Chicken Hill, of which Raymond Pederson is in charge." (La Grande Observer)
August 9, 1939: "Increasing fire hazard and poor visibility have necessitated the doubling of the station force at various lookouts throughout the forest reserve. Bernal Coles of Haines is at Chicken Hill. No change will be made in the present force until fire hazard lifts." (La Grande Observer)
July 2, 1940: "Mrs. Forrest Bowman has been the primary teacher in the Wolf Creek school for the past three years. She and her husband left for the Chicken Hill lookout station near Anthony lakes early Sunday morning and will be at home there during the summer months." (La Grande Observer)
