March 21, 1928: "Two new lookout stations and 12 miles of fire patrol telephone line will be built this year under the supervision of the Coos County Fire Patrol in Coos and Curry counties, it was announced here today by J.A. Walsh, district fire warden."

February 17, 1936: "CCC men from Camp Bradford are constructing four miles of road to Thomas Mountain where the Coos Fire Patrol expects to erect a new lookout, District Warden Keith Young has announced.
Thomas Mountain is located midway between the heads of Sandy and Rock Creeks, tributaries to the Coquille river, near Remote, and the new lookout will command a district near the sources of the creeks which heretofore could not be seen from other lookouts, Warden Young said." (The Coos Bay Times)
April 20, 1936: "Work on the Thomas mountain truck trail is progressing rapidly. This road leads into a new lookout tower site which will afford visibility into a section of country which has been considered a fire menace. The Thomas mountain tower will be the fourth tower constructed by Bradford members; the others being at Signal Tree, Live Oak and Dutchman's butte." (Roseburg News-Review)
