January 23, 1952: “The tower legs on Thunder Mountain Lookout were replaced. Thunder Mountain is a rather unusual type of construction, having nine tower leg supports.” (I-information – Historical Report, Clackamas River District - 1951)
September 4, 1963: F.R. Nelson, Inspector - Collowash Ranger District
"Mortar cracking on foundation blocks; some leaks; Horizontal beams, vertical & diagonal rotting and have numerous Carpenter ants; was painted in August (1963); Beam on south side supporting catwalk is rotten and sagging; has a wood stove; fire finder not grounded.
The existing toilet needs replacing. The floor is sagging and rotting out and has no sanitation screening. The total height of the structure is 5'. This structure is also used by the public. (40 visitors this year)
This lookout was built in 1934, the tower is rotting, rickety and should be replaced." (Inspection Report)
1964: The lookout deactivated.
