October 1947: "Roy Oliver, forest service lookout on a station near Starkey, had quite a thrilling experience when lightning struck his 90-foot tower, jumped to the nearby house, which burned to the ground. Oliver was in the tower at the time the lightning struck but was uninjured. He managed to rescue a few of his belongings from the house." (The Forest Log)
