September 2, 1950: "In the living quarters atop the lookout tower at Donnelly butte, Ernest Hunt Jr., member of the Ochoco national forest staff, and his bride, the former Gloria Wiegers of Seattle, are spending their honeymoon. The couple was married by starlight under a canopy of pines at Cedar Springs forest camp east of Paulina August 21." (The Bend Bulletin)
1952: "Donnelly Butte Lookout - This is the same type of tower as Nicoll Butte and is a very excellent piece of workmanship. Again there are several mismatched holes for diagonal crossbracing which should be reamed and the bolts put in as soon as practicable. The house was somewhat less tidy than other lookouts visited and the radio was out of order. The lookout had a standby walkie talkie so that he could still get out, but standby feature of the larger radio was, of course, lost. The top of this peak has about 50 acres cleared through timber sale procedures and the visibily is excellent. At the same time the road which Hines built to the top of the butte is certainly a very satisfactory and permanent road." (General Integrating Inspection 1952 - July 14 to 16, 1952)
