NORTH POWDER R.S.
Baker County - Whitman National Forest - 7S-37E-27
October 3, 1934: "Forrest Jones a Baker boy who had been at the North Powder lakes lookout station visited his parents at Eugene and then came on to Corvallis for work at the college, registering in the school of forestry." (Corvallis Gazette-Times)
February 1, 1939: "When making up the plans for the Fire and Improvement Warehouse, Plan No. 621, a cupola on the roof should be considered which could be used as a lookout with just room enough for a firefinder and stand. Windows should be on all four sides. This would eliminate the necessity of building a lookout tower. From this point the guard will be able to look up some of the watersheds west of North Powder. Much of this country is blind from the present lookout points." (O - Improvement, North Powder R.S., Whitman)
February 17, 1939: "Fire and Improvement warehouse, plan 621 - This plan was originally requested with lookout tower added. However, upon discussing the problem with Supervisor Moncrief, he agreed that the addition of a dormer window would meet the facility requirements. He will be contacted later and more explicit data incorporated on the prints of the working drawings forwarded them with forms R6-01. (E - Improvements, Buildings, Whitman, No. Powder R.S.)
