June 2, 1922: "The forest service hopes to build about six miles of the Salmon river trail this year, says Jackson, which will be used chiefly for fire protection. There is an old stock trail at present, full of kinks and curves which the service will eliminate. Eventually the trail will lead to Hambone butte and will go close to Salmon butte on which a fire lookout is contemplated." (The Oregon Daily Journal)
1964: The lookout deactivated.
1966: The lookout destroyed.
