July 16, 1942: "The new lookout post is at Slick Ear Peak in the Beaver Creek area, and is manned by Merton LeRoy of this community, who will be lookout fireman." (Medford Mail Tribune)
1943: A 14 by 14 L-4 ground level lookout house completed with a catwalk.
June 5, 1959: "Forest fire lookouts at Hall's point near Prospect and Squaw peak in the Applegate were manned this week, the U.S. forest service has reported.
The remaining 15 lookouts in the Rogue River National forest will be manned following the lookout training session June 17-19 at Camp 2 east of Butte Falls.
About 100 lookouts, patrolmen, crew members and other fire control personnel will attend the school." (Medford Mail Tribune)
January 6, 1960: "Don LaRose, Upper Applegate, was flown to Portland Veterans' hospital by Mercy Flights recently, and is undergoing treatment there. For the past 10 years LaRose has been in charge of Squaw Peak lookout during the summers." (Medford Mail Tribune)
June 5, 1960: "Fire danger is now moderately high, especially in the lower elevations, so the forest is manning Squaw Peak, the first lookout station on the forest to be manned this year." (Medford Mail Tribune)
June 24, 1960: "Boyd Gibson made a big splash, so to speak, when he drove to Squaw Lakes Saturday for the first time.
He took along a telescope, and vacationers at headquarters were much entertained with a close-up of Squaw Peak lookout 3 1/2 miles distant. They were able to see Lookout Don LaRose relaxing outside his glass house, to see his two dogs, and his wrist watch." (Medford Mail Tribune)
June 1, 1961: "Rogue River National forest has had Squaw Peak lookout stationed off and on for the past two weeks, as conditions warranted. Don LaRose is the lookout there." (Medford Mail Tribune)
June 8, 1962: "Rogue River National forest posted Basil Craig on Squaw Peak lookout in the Applegate district yesterday. This is the third time he has manned the station this spring. He was sent up during the previous dry spells and came down when rains fell." (Medford Mail Tribune)
May 27, 1963: "Squaw peak lookout of the Rogue National forest was manned today, Doug Finch, fire control officer of the forest reported.
Manning the lookout is Basil Craig.
Finch said that, if the weather continues warm and dry, other lookouts may be sent up in the next day or two." (Medford Mail Tribune)
June 12, 1963: "The Medford office of the Rogue River National forest announced that they manned the Whiskey Peak lookout in the Applegate district yesterday.
Harold Shafer has been assigned there. He follows Basil Craig on the Squaw Peak lookout." (Medford Mail Tribune)
