July 25, 1931: "John Brigham returned to his duties at Flat Lake recently." (La Grande Observer)
September 12, 1949: "U.S. forest service crews reported they had extinguished two small blazes spotted in the Starkey vicinity by the Flat Lake lookout." (La Grande Observer)
