July 24, 1914: "John Jenkins of this city has been appointed as forester to have charge of the Bennett's Peak lookout station, where one of the new fire finders will be located." (La Grande Observer)
August 27, 1915: "Three forest fires within the last two days have been caused by lightning storms in the mountains, according to information received by telephone at the Baker forestry office from Robert W. Quinn, lookout man at the station on Bennett's Peak. The fires were discovered before they had gained much headway and were speedily put under control." (The Morning Oregonian)
September 23, 1915: "What may prove the worst fire of all was reported to the supervisor late yesterday afternoon from the Bennett's Peak lookout. This is on East Eagle creek and menacing a large body of valuable timber." (La Grande Observer)
August 1935: "Fred Groom, ex-ranger on the Whitman and Umatilla Forests, now lookout-dispatcher on the Minam unit of the Forest, was brought in to Baker late in June with a ruptured appendix. An emergency operation was performed here. Fred went up on Bennett Peak on July 15, and is doing nicely, now that he is back home." (Six Twenty-Six)
