October 1951: "Grindstone lookout withstood the fury of the last Tillamook fire in good shape, according to Lou Amort, engineer for the state forestry department. The lookout is the aluminum type and the house sits directly on the ground. Evidence shows that the fire burned around the lookout with intensity. Stumps near the lookout were consumed and a jug about five feet from the lookout house melted. Chunks of burned material were found on the roof and the paint on the shutters had peeled off. However the lookout house itself was not damaged." (The Forest Log)
1956: The outhouse re-roofed with shakes.
June 20, 1957: "Miss Ruby Wells was also home from Thursday to Sunday. She has been on a fire lookout for several weeks and Monday was transferred to the Grindstone lookout where she will be for the rest of the summer." (Vernonia Eagle)
