September 22, 1933: "Work has been started on a road to Gold Butte and a lookout house will be built on that eminence." (The Eugene Guard)
October 22, 1933: "Out of Mary creek camp a crew is completing a mile of road to Gold Butte and another crew is building a lookout house on the butte and a garage further down the mountain." (The Eugene Guard)
Activated: August 11, 1942; Deactivated: September 22, 1943. Portland Filter Center.
1942: A cabin for the Aircraft Warning Service observers was built along the lookout trail a short distance below the lookout.
September 22, 1943: AWS Station 'Tare 2-0' was inactivated with recommendation to retain. The AWS constructed a small sleeping quarters at the site. (Report of Aircraft Warning Service Stations, May 1, 1944)
July 1999: Restoration work began on the lookout cabin.
September 2006: The lookout, upon completion of the restoration, was dedicated. The cabin then entered into the recreational rental program.
