1917: A crude cupola lookout shelter erected.
July 28, 1920: "No one has been obtained as yet to take the place of Mrs. L. E. Flock, the lookout on Heckletooth, who was taken ill yesterday and had to come down to Eugene for medical treatment. She, with her two children, age ten and twelve years, walked the five or six miles from their station, down to where her husband was stationed in order that he might bring her to town." (Morning Register)
August 24, 1920: "Mrs. Lewis Flock, lookout on Heckletooth mountain, killed a wild cat near her lookout camp a few days ago. Mrs. Flock is on the lookout with her little son and daughter." (Morning Register)
December 17, 1920: "Mrs. Lew Flock was in town yesterday to collect bounty on two bobcats which she killed near her home at Oakridge. Mrs. Flock, whose husband runs the livery stable there and acts as guide to hunters, has come to be be known as one of the best fire lookouts of her district. During the fire season she occupies a post on the top of Heckletooth mountain from which giddy vantage point she reports appearances of smoke to rangers." (Morning Register)
July 1, 1922: "Miss Vida Derflinger, of this city, has gone to Oakridge to resume her position as forest fire lookout on one of the high points above that place." (Morning Register)
